It's time to throw open the windows and welcome in the sun and get some spring cleaning done. Keep reading to learn what oils make the best cleaners and how to make your own all-purpose cleaner.

Creating a more natural home can feel like a daunting task. No Waste, Minimalism, and Homesteading are all growing trends. While the idea of cutting out toxic chemicals in our lives sounds nice, where can you start? Swapping your cleaning supplies and ditching the cleaners your mother and grandmother swear by can be a simple first step in the right direction.

Making your own cleaner is not only nice for your home, but it’s better for the environment and your wallet. And after learning about how Toxic Your Beauty Routine can be, let’s not add more toxic and harmful chemicals into our lives.

Essential oils are naturally antimicrobial, and with their antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial properties, you can customize your cleaning products to suit your needs. The amount of oil needed in your cleaning solution will depend on your needs. If it’s simple, daily surface cleaning 5 or fewer drops of oil in 2-3 cups of water will suffice. For those pesky and extra-dirty areas, you can use up to 20 drops of oil. If you’re using that much oil, be aware the potency is much higher, and you can expect the smell to come through strongly.

To get started, here is a small list of some of the most-used oils. There are more options out there, but this is a good place to start.
